Three suspected carjackers were shot dead on Saturday night at Mithiru, along the Naivasha-Nakuru Highway.

According to reports, the three were together with three others who escaped with gunshot wounds.

Naivasha Deputy OCPD John Kwasa who confirmed the incident said that the six planned to hijack a Nairobi bound bus when they got ambushed by police officers who had been given a tip-off from the public.

He added that they were forced to fire at the suspects, after they defied orders to surrender and that a manhunt had begun for the three who escaped.

According to Citizen Digital, Police recovered 10 mobile phones, several sim cards, a homemade gun, a machete, clothes and other items from the suspects.

Deputy OCPD Kwasa connected the slain suspects to a series of hijacking incidents that have been reported on the Nairobi-Nakuru and Maai Mahiu-Narok highways.

The killed suspects were reported to have hijacked a Narok bound matatu on Saturday morning together with their accomplices and robbed passengers of their belongings.

"Some of the recovered items were stolen from passengers travelling in the matatu that was hijacked in the morning," said Kwasa.
