Speaking to Nation, the lawyer who has been admitted at Nairobi Hospital for the past month said that he lost everything after he accidentally shot his 29 year old son.
He went on to say that going to prison is nothing compared to losing a son he was very close to.
“I have never been to a police cell, but if they take me to prison, it will not be worse than losing my son in the way it happened. There is nothing more to lose at this point. I have lost everything,” the lawyer said to Nation.
“Both of us were arsenal fans and I was trying to teach him some golf. We were preparing to take him abroad to further his studies,” he added.
Nyakundi who insists that the shooting was by accident also said that after investigations are complete and he has to go for trial, he will defend himself.
“If it turns out there will be a trial, I will defend myself and my lawyers will do their bit because it was an accident,” he said.
The lawyer raised concern with how the media has been reporting false stories about the shooting. He also disclosed that his other son Noah had not visited him in hospital since he was hospitalized for high blood pressure.
Shooting son
The Nairobi lawyer was arrested on March 17 after he shot and killed his son Joseph Nyakundi.
According to the lawyer, he shot his son while holstering his fire arm when he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his son who was in the backseat of the car.
The two were heading home at around 1am from International Christian Center (ICC) Church on Mombasa Road.
