Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan and family mourning the death of his aunt, Khadija

Kamukunji Member of Parliament (MP) Yusuf Hassan on Tuesday announced the death of his aunt, Khadija, who was the last remaining matriarch of their family.

In a tweet to his followers, MP Yusuf revealed that the relative had passed on in Garissa County.

"Lost my aunty Khadija today. She passed on in Garissa. Also an end of era for my family, she was the last surviving child of my grandfather Sultan Osman ‘Gelle’ Yusuf Magan," the MP disclosed.

The death comes just a day after Yusuf condoled with National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale as he mourned the death of a prominent leader from Garissa county, Mzee Ali Ibrahim Osman alias Ali Ethiopia.

Yusuf has been the MP for Kamukunji since 2011 and has previously worked for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

The MP also boasts of a 20-year-career in journalism having worked for KBC, BBC in the United Kingdom and Voice of America's Africa division.
