JKIA to be closed, heavy traffic expected as Melania Trump lands in Nairobi today

She is expected at JKIA ahead of a 2 day visit

JKIA Terminal 2 to be closed as Melania Trump lands in Nairobi

The visit is expected to interrupt a number of activities, including a partial shutdown of the busy Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) on Thursday announced that it would close down JKIA Terminal Two for two and a half hours to enhance Melania’s security.

The interruption will take place between 5.30pm and 9pm.

“During this time all the domestic flight operations handled at T2 will be handled at JKIA’s Terminal 1D. Terminal 1E (T1E) will be used for International Arrivals and Terminal 1B (T1B) FOR International departures,” KAA said in a press statement.

Apart from the interruption at JKIA, heavy traffic is expected along major roads as the US First Lady will be making her way to Nairobi.

The traffic department is yet to release details of the roads that will be closed down but Mombasa Road and Uhuru Highway are expected to be blocked as Melania’s entourage makes its way to the city.

On Friday, the US First Lady will be joined by her Kenyan counterpart Margaret Kenyatta for a performance by Sarakasi dancers at the Kenya National Theatre.

She will then jet out of the country on Saturday with the airport being closed down partially for her exit.
