Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has responded to a request by a city resident to appoint him as his deputy.

Philip Chogoti Chepsat on Wednesday urged Sonko to appoint him as the deputy governor in a request made via a newspaper advert titled ‘Expression of Interest.

In his response, Sonko said he will be ready to appoint a deputy governor once the legislation pending in Parliament on nomination and appointment of DG assents into law.

"I committed myself to Nairobians that my nominee for Nairobi City County's Next Deputy Governor shall be a woman," the governor said.

"Too bad you are not a woman because I intend to keep that promise to my women supporters at all costs," he added.

Open slots for application

He urged Mr Chepsat not to be disappointed and keep checking up if there are open slots in the county government and apply for the job.

"Don't give up on your dream to serve in the leadership of Nairobi County but to keep checking up and applying as vacancies come up," Sonko stated.

"I shall soon be sending home several nonperforming Members of County Executive Committee and Chief Officers who are sleeping on the job and you should be on the standby to apply," he added.

In the newspaper advert placed by Chepsat, he detailed his credentials as being a university graduate with over 15 years of experience in public service.
