Lawyer Anthony Tom Oluoch, who is also the Mathare MP, alleged that on Wednesday when leading the anti-IEBC demons along Moi Avenue, he was confronted by several members of the Nairobi Business Community who launched teargas canisters against him and his supporters.
“We need to address the question of impunity with which the police has handled the so called Nairobi Business Community. Yesterday along Moi Avenue, we were confronted by the business community who were actually armed with teargas,” Oluoch stated.
The claims were, however, dismissed by Police Spokesman who accused Oluoch of spreading propaganda.
“We don’t want propaganda. There were demos elsewhere including in Homa Bay where a police officer was thoroughly beaten, his gun snatched and burnt, were the so call Nairobi Business Community there? I challenge Oluoch to use the power of private arrest and apprehend just one so he can prove me wrong,” the Police spokesman remarked.
The development came as Interior Cabinet CS Fred Matiang’i banned demonstrations in the central business district of major towns including Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nairobi.
