The coalition now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to hire an independent international firm to oversee the working of Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS).
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday morning, NASA leaders led by Principal Musalia Mudavadi said that international expert from the Commonwealth or the United Nations (UN) should now oversee the KIEMS.
“We suggest that IEBC immediately secures the services of an international expert to secure the system. What we want at the end of the day is an election that will receive acceptance by Kenyans & the international community,” Mudavadi said.
The leaders affirmed that Kenyans would like to be assured that the electronic systems have not been tampered with following the death of Msando.
“Our democracy has been thoroughly undermined by the murder of Msando,” said Mudavadi.
NASA leaders on Monday condemned the killing which they termed as an attempt to subvert democracy in the country.
Msando was responsible for the entire body of electoral data that is the basis of next month’s election, including the KIEMS, including voter identity, verification, results transmission and the entire electronic tallying process.
“Chris Msando’s brutal killing was an attempt to drive a dagger into the heart of the forthcoming election, and indeed a dagger into the heart of Kenyan democracy," Mudavadi reitarated.
