In a meeting held on Wednesday by the electoral body, four commissioners opposed the new team picked by Chebukati stating that they were not aware and only knew the team after it was picked. To make matters worse, both Jubilee and NASA have also rejected the team on grounds that it's partisan.
“After publication of the names of your election project team, we have received credible information that in the list are people known to be partisan," part of a statement by Jubilee read. The NASA brigade led by Raila Odinga is yet to agree with the official date set by IEBC stating that they were not consulted.IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe on Wednesday divulged that some officials in the electoral body refused to resign forcing Chebukati to pick a new team he trusted.According to Akombe, the officials who refused to resign were the ones linked to mishandling the election process. “In a normal democracy, people would have introspected, they would have opted to step aside. They have failed to do that. They have refused,” Akombe revealed. It now remains to be seen what is Chebukati's next move as he plans to meet Odinga's team on Thursday to discuss the set date and other matters of contention.
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained that the Elections will be held on October 17 as announced by IEBC. On the other hand, the Opposition leader has stated that key issues have not been addressed adding that the date could be pushed further to make sure all issue of contention are adequately addressed. m
